Women That Have Inspired Change in South Africa: Charlotte Maxeke

Known as the Mother of Black Freedom in South  Africa, Charlotte Maxeke was indeed a revolutionary woman!

Her accomplishments include being one of the first black  South African women to obtain a degree after graduating in  1901. She also went on to assist in organising the anti-pass  movement of 1913 and founded the Bantu Women’s league  in 1917.

As we celebrate women’s month this August, let’s reflect on  the freedoms we enjoy today as a result of the efforts of  Charlotte Maxeke and the other strong women in our  country’s history.
