Susters4Life Founder Receives a Political Academy Fellowship

The Susters4Life team got some exciting news this month. Our co-founder Reneé Thompson has been selected for a place in Apolitical Academy’s Public Service Fellowship in Southern Africa.

Apolitical Academy is an independent, non-profit venture established by Apolitical Foundation together with the Daniel Sachs Foundation.

The Academy’s worldwide, non-partisan fellowship programmes work to train diverse groups of talented, innovative leaders in personal leadership development, as well as public service skills and systems.

Reneé was one of just 50 candidates shortlisted from 250 extraordinary applications from the SADC, and will be taking part in the Academy’s 2018-19 program.

More About Reneé

Reneé Thompson is an experienced Parliamentary Liaison Officer with a demonstrated history of working in Parliament and Government. She holds a Master of Philosophy in Journalism from Stellenbosch University, where she is currently doing her PhD, focusing her research on the legislative process of the South African Parliament. She’s also currently employed as Transformation Manager at the Clicks Group.

“My determination, drive and ambition is the product of being raised in a family of strong women; my grandmother, my late mother, my two aunts, my godmother and cousins, and my sisters. My nephew, Owen, and my 6-year-old niece, Lucille, keep me on my toes with their inquisitive minds and the freeness with which they express themselves. I am also blessed to have an amazing group of friends in my life, who have all become susters to me.
I am acknowledging all of them, because I would not be where I am today without them. I know that I can make a meaningful contribution to our country, and would like to do more to empower rural women, and this is one of the main reasons why I applied for the Apolitical Academy.” – Reneé Thompson

We wish our suster Reneé all the best with the upcoming program; we know she will be a credit to Apolitical Academy, and her time with them will help her to take the work of Susters4Life to new heights.
